Consultation with a doctor
Consultation with an experienced general practitioner. You will have the opportunity to talk openly, informally and in confidence about your health. The doctor will review your medical history, talk about your lifestyle and discuss any specific concerns you may have. A full physical examination will be performed. All advice provided will be included in a report for you to keep.
Free follow up appointment with a doctor
We are a private GP clinic and want you to develop a relationship with our doctor. We do not simply want to perform tests and send you a report. This is why you will have the option to follow up your health screen with a free appointment – with the same GP you met with for the tests. This can be via telephone or face to face and provides the opportunity to discuss all the findings in the health screen. We believe, totally, in continuity of care.
Your lifestyle can influence your health and the questionnaire will identify areas which can impact on your physical wellbeing including diet, smoking and exercise. Details of your medical history will be considered.
Blood Pressure Check
High blood pressure is a risk factor in heart disease, strokes and other serious conditions. High blood pressure usually causes no symptoms so you will not know if you have it. Therefore, everyone should have regular blood pressure checks – at least every 3 years.
Body composition check
Body composition is the body’s relative amount of fat to fat-free mass. A good body composition makes you healthier, allows you to move more easily, and generally feel better than those with less-than-ideal body composition. Keeping body fat under control and maintaining a healthy weight can help to prevent diabetes and other obesity related diseases.
Your height and weight will be measured and body mass index (BMI) calculated. BMI is a measure of whether you are a healthy weight for your height.
The Word Health Organization identified that abdominal obesity rather than generalised obesity is a stronger risk factor for some diseases.
We will calculate your waist – hip ratio and comment on the findings.
Cardiovascular Disease Risk
Findings from your medical examination and test results will be used to work out your individual risk of having a heart attack or stroke over the next ten years.
Urinalysis involves checking the appearance, concentration and content of urine.
Comprehensive Blood Tests
Cholesterol profile (Lipid Profile):
Blood tests for total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides. If your cholesterol is high, usually there will be no signs or symptoms so it is important to check your cholesterol as it is a risk factor for heart diseases.
This is checked to ensure that your blood glucose level is in a healthy range. It is used to diagnose and monitor diabetes.
Full blood count:
The full blood count (FBC) is one of the most commonly ordered tests and provides important information about cells in the blood. This screening is for infection, anaemia and other blood diseases.
Checks that the kidneys are working properly, measures the level of urea, creatinine, and certain dissolved salts.
This is done to check the level of Uric acid in your blood. This helps in the diagnosis of Gout and monitoring uric acid during chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
Used to detect liver damage or disease. Liver function tests measure various chemicals in the blood made by the liver. An abnormal result indicates a problem with the liver, and may help to identify the cause. Further tests may then be needed.
This is a non-specific test that detects acute or chronic inflammation.
Tests that include the measurement of Calcium and Phosphate. Alterations in these levels may be associated with both bone and kidney disease.
Provides an indication of the body’s iron status.
